The Story Behind Diamond In The Rough Baseball
Diamond In The Rough Baseball is the idea of a professional baseball player who also saw his father go through the struggles of being a baseball player. He grew up watching his father devote 15 years to the game of baseball. One offseason his father was struggling to make ends meet after a long season. He had to put food on the table for his wife and three kids so he started loading trucks and substitute teaching in order to provide for his family. That was the first time his son realized that baseball isn't always as glamorous as it seems.
As he grew older his father became a coach in professional baseball and he saw many more players that were going through that very same struggle. Many of the players had wives and kids or were fresh out of college and had student debt to pay off but had little to no signing bonus to use. It also didn't help that they were making $1,100 a month BEFORE taxes.
Many players aren't able to focus solely on getting better throughout the offseason because they have to work jobs that pay low wages in order to pay bills. That means the players that aren't awarded the huge signing bonuses don't have the luxury of focusing on getting better during the offseason. That is why baseball is becoming less and less competitive year to year. The great players get better and the good players try to claw their way to the top.
